about

Hi there! Welcome to the "about" page of The Starving Inspired. I'm glad you stopped by, and I do hope you stay for a while.

TSI is an everything blog - there's no specific genre here. You'll see plenty of my recipes and movie reviews, some of my photography, and some lifestyle and fashion sprinkled in too. Just click on any of the tabs under my blog's banner, and you'll find some fairly organized sections.

What's in a name? What exactly does the name of my blog have to do with anything? Actually, it's fairly simple.
The - definite article

Starving - I love food. I am almost always hungry, though hunger has never been a prerequisite to me eating. And, I love to cook.

Inspired - I want to live an inspired life - inspired by God, the Holy Spirit, my wonderful friends, and people whose holiness, lives, talent, and creativity I greatly admire. It's undoubtedly a work in progress, but you're invited to come along for the ride.

"You can't wait for inspiration to come to you. You have to go after it with a club."
~ Jack London

I'm Iris, the raving Irish maniac girl behind the blog. By career, I am a professional vacation petsitter / house sitter and assistant producer for a locally based radio station. I'm also a writer, freelance photographer, home cook, and an unashamed pluviophile. INFP (with the emphasis on the I), Roman Catholic, proud of both. I spend my free time chasing dragons.

That dashing bearded fellow to my side is my boyfriend Jacob. We met at the wedding of two mutual friends in eastern Missouri in the summer of 2015. I was the photographer and he was the couple's best man. A few months after the wedding, we started chatting on Facebook and began dating shortly thereafter. He is absolutely wonderful.

See mom? Facebook is good for something. ;)

This is Aemelia. She is one of my very best friends, my favorite travel buddy, and you'll probably see her here and on my YouTube channel quite a bit. Her main purpose in life is to keep me from overdosing on orange tic-tacs, but so far she isn't doing a very good job.

We met at a church group for girls when we were single-digits, and reunited at a high school youth group swing dance a few years later, where we became fast friends. The rest, as they say, is history.

And of course, I have parents, a brother, and his girlfriend fiancé a sister-in-law. Because of privacy reasons, I won't be sharing too much of their lives, but you'll be seeing them around these parts on occasion.

FAQ

Is that your real name? Yes. I've pondered blogging anonymously, but that's not for me. I feel that using my name gives a more personal connection to y'all the readers, and you to me. Besides, as a journalist, photographer, and editor/producer, My name is already on things, and since I do like my name I thought I might as well use it here too.

Are you a professional photographer? Yes.

What kind of camera do you use? For my photography, I use a Canon T5i. For my video blogs, I use that and my Canon G7X.

Where did you learn photography? I am mostly self-taught when it comes to video and photography - shooting and editing. As a gen. ed. in my final year of university, I took a photography 101 course, which strengthened some skills I already had, and taught me some things I didn't know.

How do you edit your photos? I don't usually, but I use either PicMonkey, Photoshop, or Lightroom when necessary.

How long does it take to edit a vlog and what program do you use? Well, that depends on just about everything: How much I've filmed and how much I like enough to keep in the video. Then comes the splicing. And then music, which is the most difficult and time-consuming part of the process (especially in the beginning, since I was still figuring out what sound I wanted to use). Altogether, editing a vlog can take anywhere from one to five hours. I use Final Cut Pro.

Who takes pictures of you for your fashion stuff? Aemelia usually does, but I use a tripod or my father when she's unavailable. I have not yet subjected Jacob to becoming my photographer.

Where do you live? For privacy reasons I'm sure we can all understand, I won't tell you exactly where I live, although if you're savvy, you could probably figure out the city if you really want to. Let's just say southeastern Michigan, born and raised.

Where did you go to school? I went to a private school until 6th grade. I then attended a fantastic homeschool co-op until I graduated from high school. I graduated from Madonna University with an Associates in Journalism, Communications, and Public Relations in May of 2015.

What is your favorite song? My current favorite song changes all the time. All. the. time. I'm listening to music almost constantly. However, I do have a few songs that have consistently been my favorite for many many many many years. California and The Circle Game by Joni Mitchell. Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. Songbirds and Danny Boy by Eva Cassidy. Parting Glass by anybody, but mostly Peter Hollens or The High Kings.

Why do you blog? Because it's fun! I started this blog during my senior year of high school (2012) on a whim and never looked back. I've loved writing and reading since I was a little girl, and I thought a blog would be a fun way to share.

Do you read the comments? Every single one, and I appreciate them all. Especially the nice ones.
