sheenazing & sherlock // 7QT (vol. 34)

1.  First of all, I owe you a giant thank you to all of you!  A week or so ago, I was nominated for a Sheenazing Blogger Award at A Knotted Life, and I won in the "Best Under-appreciated Blogger" category, all because y'all voted for me!  It's so reaffirming to know that my words are appreciated by folks.  So, THANK YOU!

gimme shelter {a movie review}

Based on the real life experiences of Agnes Bailey (Vanessa Hudgens), Gimme Shelter is the film revolving around a pregnant, very troubled teen girl who runs away from her very troubled home, if one could even call it that.  Her mother (Rosario Dawson)

the book thief {movie review}

I know, I know, this post is a little late in coming, this movie has been out for a while, and for goodness sakes, as a journalist, I should know news has to be timely!  But, I didn't have a chance to see this film until last night.  And it's my blog.  So.

march for life, 2014

At 4:30 this morning (oh, ungodly hour), we returned from the 41st Annual March for Life in Washington D.C.  I went home, blacked out under the covers of my delicious bed for a couple hours, went to Mass.  Now, off to school in a few minutes, and then to church for Anna's rosary.

Life really doesn't slow down at all ever.

Anyway.

This basilica, maaaan...  I'm telling you.  Being there eight times has not lessened the wonderment I feel when I go in that place.  It's like all the pounds of stress and worry and whatever just seem to melt into nothingness when I look at this stunning tribute to the Lord's Majesty and to His Mother.

#whywemarch

As aforementionedAemelia, Marisa, some other pals, and I are off to the strange, exotic land of Washington D.C. (hah!) for the 41st annual March for Life, where we will walk up Constitution Avenue with hundreds of thousands of others with the same purpose.

This is why I march.  (Questions a la Aemelia.)

rest in peace, anna.

I hate writing stuff like this.  I hate it when good friends are suddenly no more.  But there is a Divine plan behind all of it.  We just don't know what it is, yet.

prayers for anna ~ we need a miracle

Please join me in prayer for a friend of mine.  Her name is Anna.  She is suffering from complications of cystic fibrosis, and has double pneumonia.  She is now in a coma on a ventilator, and we are praying for a miracle that she will pull through and recover.  Her situation, to say the least, is not good.  Please, please, please.

march for life must-haves ~ 7QTish. (vol. 33)

In a little less than two weeks (whaaaaat), I shall be joining hundreds of thousands of fellow pro-lifers on the National Mall in Washington D.C. for the 41st annual March for Life.  (Read last year's post about it HERE.)  This year will be the 8th (I think.  I can't rightly remember.) time I've made the trip, and I'm so happy to be traveling on a bus with some of my favorite people - Aemelia, Marisa, and Cait included!

Anyhow, over the years, I've discovered a few necessities for the trip, and I thought I'd share them on the chance that some of y'all will be going as well.

Really, this should be called "must-haves for road trips in the cold."

movie review & walter mitty's clementine cake

Last night, my dad and I went to see The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and this movie is really a gem.  A gem, I tell you.

guest posting at "footprints on my heart"

Since I first heard the "Goretti story," I have felt a special connection to Maria...  She is such a stellar example for us young women (and men, really) growing up in the chaos of today's society, and I think one of the greatest obstacles I will ever face as a member of the Catholic Church is learning to forgive those who have hurt me in the past.

lewis / tolkien linky par-tay

Hello, 'ello, 'ello, kind country people (and country people in spirit)!  If you don't know this about me already, I am a huge fan of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, and I tend to jump at any opportunity I have to nerd about their work.  Aspirer of Heavenly Aspirations and Peregrine of Traveling Home invited me to join a link party in which I can talk about these two wonderful people, and a few of their masterpieces.  With the inevitable chaos of the holidays, I wasn't able to spend as much time on this as I would have liked, but this'll do for now, eh?  I know some of the discussions will warrant another post of their own down the road.

Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TOKIEN!!  YOU WONDERFUL MAN, YOU...

year in review / 2013

I know I have a few more than 13 pictures here... but I'm linking up with Dweej's 2013 in 13 anyway.  I'm a rebel.

When a fabulous year draws to a close and we start to peer hopefully into the treasury which is the next one, it's nice to reflect on the past a little bit, don't you think?  I just spent some time looking through the pictures still on my laptop, and thought I'd invite you on a little trip down memory lane.  Join me for some of my favorite moments?

a brand new year

"ONE DAY SHE FINALLY GRASPED THAT UNEXPECTED THINGS WERE ALWAYS GOING TO HAPPEN IN LIFE. AND WITH THAT SHE REALISED THE ONLY CONTROL SHE HAD WAS HOW SHE CHOSE TO HANDLE THEM. SO SHE MADE THE DECISION TO SURVIVE USING COURAGE, HUMOR, AND GRACE. SHE WAS THE QUEEN OF HER OWN LIFE AND THE CHOICE WAS HERS."

Well, folks, it's a brand new year.  It has officially been 365 days since we celebrated the dawn of 2013, and I sat down to plan out my life, writing a list of what to do to have the best year ever.
