fresh fruit bowl (birthday dinner 2014 pt. 2)

Wellllll, top o' the... afternoon... to ya, folks!  I hope you are having a thoroughly pleasant St. Paddy's Day, behaving in a respectable manner, and traveling safely.  Too many yahoos out there for such a good day, if you ask me.  And, I hope you're wearing green. ;)  To be honest, the whole green thing completely slipped my mind until my mother reminded me, and dropped off a green sweater to me at work (thank you!).  I am officially an awful Iris lass.

And now, I shall leave you with one of my mother’s favorite go-to dishes is a delightful bowl of fresh and brightly colored fruit, coated with a very thin layer of yogurt, doubling as a side dish or even a desert, since the sugar in the fruit is indeed entirely fulfilling.  It’s very simple to put together, which is forever appreciated when it comes to food…

Make sure all fruit is fresh and ripe.

Strawberries
Blueberries
Red grapes
Green grapes
Kiwis
Cherry Yogurt

There are actually no measurements for this wee concoction… it’s just one of those dishes for which we get to choose the quantities – suchlike works for what we need.  I like it that way, since it makes me feel more legit with I just toss everything all up in there.

Slice the grapes in half, the strawberries into quarters (or bite-size pieces, depending on how big they are), peel and slice the kiwis.  Toss the fruit together, marvel at the colors, and mix in just enough cherry yogurt (we use Yoplait "cherry orchard") to thinly coat the fruit.  Be careful not to use too much, though, because the taste of cherries might drown out the other flavors, and we can’t be havin’ that.

I’m normally not a fan of yogurt, and definitely not cherry, but the flavor is surprisingly agreeable, and, daresay, delicious.  We’ve trialed other varieties of yogurt, but for this particular combination, cherry just seems to be the paramount.

Good luck!  Come back and let me know how it turned out. :)
