2013 favorites

As we wrap up the year and (allllllmost) head into the new one, I thought I'd highlight the 7 most popular posts of Country Girl's Daybook from last year.  Chosen, of course, by you, my dear readers.  There are way too many commas in that sentence.

Looking through my blog stats, these articles have had the most page views, ergo earning the title "favorite."

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Michael Buble on Grooveshark

Well, I do hope y'all are having an absolutely wonderful Christmas.  One of the best things about being Catholic is that the celebrations of the major feast days last a looonnnnng time.  12 days of Christmas, yo!

Most of my past few days were spent at work, but I was able to sneak away for a bit to celebrate with my people.  And of course, I snapped a few pictures, because, what else is my life for?  Here are my favorites.  (I know, I have many favorites.)

christmas eve

Is it just me, or has Christmas snuck up on us extra quick this year?

Yes, hello, Felix.  You're adorable.

christmas letter - 2013

Every year, my cousin Rebecca and her husband send Christmas letters to family and friends from their home in Utah.  Every year, I want to write back with our goings on and sweet "nothings," but something by the name of "life" always gets in the way.  This year, however, I blocked the world from my mind and actually came through with my plan.  Whoopee!  Throughout the year, you read what's going on in my life and mind for the most part, but I thought it would be nice to sum up the year and share my letter with you dear folks.  Note: I've switched a few things around from revisions a la re-read-with-more-time, and for privacy, but I don't think you'll mind, eh?

fourth sunday of advent

Can you believe it's Christmas Week already?  In just a few days, we'll be singing a new song - one of thanksgiving instead of waiting.  The celebration of Christ the God-Man in our midst.

So should be our song every day...  He was on fire to share the gift, Himself, and so should we.  He comes to us in the Sacraments transformed by the Holy Spirit, and so should be our joy.

I'm spending it at work, so I didn't have a chance to snap a picture of our fully-lighted Advent wreath.  I'm excited to light the white candle in the center!

sitting & talking

The world is so pushy.

It's constantly trying to convince is to do more things.

But, you know, sometimes it's just wonderful to sit and talk.

No need to do.  Just be.

war horse at the fisher

My dad and I received a lovely little surprise on Tuesday night... a friend of mine texted me out of the blue to offer me two free tickets to the opening night of Broadway in Detroit's production of War Horse at the beautiful Fisher Theatre.

What a fun opportunity, and an absolutely wonderful performance.  And, in what a magnificent building!  Art Deco and the 1940s style are probably my favorites.

thoughts // womanhood

I discovered this quote a week or so ago whilst trolling le internets and lounging around Maison de L'eau* swathed in blankets and sipping hot chocolate, and it resonated with me.  I thought I'd share it with you.

"Motivated no longer by practical needs, but by loneliness and fear, women began to identify themselves by what they bought rather than by what they did.  They bought labor-saving devices that worked, as most modern machines have tended to work, to devalue or replace the skills of those who used them. They bought manufactured foods, which did likewise.  They bought any produce that offered to lighten the burdens of housework, to be ‘kind to hands’, or to endear one to one’s husband.

life lately ~ 7QT (vol. 31)

Well, my goodness.  My sincerest apologies for this week's absence...  So many things going on.  Here's a summary list in case you care:

- finishing up and handing in two major term projects
- 3 very long and intense final exams
- a very unexpected funeral for a 21-year-old friend of mine.  Please, please, please pray for his family and his soul.

monday links // what Jenna wore Sunday

I told myself I wasn't going to post anything today, but... what the hey.  It's not like studying for these exams are going to shape me into an upstanding person for my future and eventually play a huge role in landing a good-paying career which will then help me be successful and happy and helpful in this life, and let my heart grow close to God's so I will be with Him in the next...  (Sarcasm, people.)  (I'll get back to exams in a minute.)

There are a few links I'd like to pass around today, if you don't mind.  Even if you do.  This is my blog.

One week closer to Christmas.  One week closer to the celebration of our Savior's arrival.

pumpkin roll

Well, Thanksgiving is technically over, but that does NOT mean that 1) we stop being thankful, or 2) everything pumpkin has to go away until next year.  Nosiree.  I'll be snacking on pumpkin things until Christmas, and probably even after that.

Which is why, this:
And here is the recipe.

laugh lines

Whilst trolling YouTube during my off time the other afternoon, I stumbled across a Nat Geo documentary about the (often ludicrous) lengths some people are taking in order to preserve their youthfulness, to find their own “Fountain of Youth.”

I was shocked and saddened by the whole thing…

One man has devoted his life to practicing yoga and urine therapy in the mountains and another has undergone over forty plastic surgery procedures.  They’ve spent their life trying to obliterate any signs of it on their bodies.

5 blogs i love & why i love them

Happy Monday, all!  I hope you're all successfully recovering from your turkey comas.  Also, Happy December!

And happy Advent!

I'm taking the opportunity this "Cyber Monday" to rave about a few of my favorite blogs today, because, it's online and Cyber Monday is for online stuff, and, well, I feel like it.  I love blog love (yes, that is a thing... don't look at me like that), even though I might sound a little creepy professing my unceasing love and devotion for these people "just 'cause."  But then, I'm a woman, soooooo...  Quiet, you.

I read a lot of blogs.  I love a lot of blogs.  And I get much of my inspiration from a lot of different blogs, but there are a few I want to mention in particular this time around.  I might make this a monthly thing.  Who knows.

first sunday of advent

Happy Advent!

Cue the anticipation for our Infant King.  Cue the hope in our God, who made himself a mortal to redeem us.

Cue the advent wreath and beginning preparations for Christmastime.
