star crust & blueberry glace pie

Yesterday, I made a pie.  No no no.  You do not understand.  This is MONUMENTAL.  Because I do not make pies.  I can't make pies.  Ever.  Except for pumpkin.

But yesterday, I did.  And it was not pumpkin.

break the pattern

A few years ago, I made a private pledge to always be myself, no matter the circumstances.  And let me tell you, though you probably already know, it's not easy being yourself in a world where other standards are being set all around us, and we are constantly being told what we should be like and who we should imitate.  This is exactly how to create a boring and generic culture of robots.

"I love you" ~ photo challenge #1 results are in!

Country Girl's Daybook Photo Challenge Mission # 1:

Point a camera at him/her.
Tell him/her, "I love you," and take a picture of the moment they react.

Submissions due on or before October 28.
The best state of a human being is to love someone more than yourself.

I'm still trying to figure out the details of this, so bear with me if the format is a little boring or unoriginal this time around.

little blue ~ talia dress {anthropologie}

My mother's friend, Pete, married the love of his life the other night, and before they left on their honeymoon last night, we met up with some of Jean's friends and the newlyweds for Mass and dinner.  And this is what I wore.

Remember that mystery dress I told you about - the one that was "under construction" because the sleeves were too tight?

Voilaaaaaaaa!  This is Anthropologie's Talia Dress.  And I love it.

chicken lettuce wraps a la Jenna Hines

Jenna and I met online a few months ago whilst I was shamelessly Facebook messaging other bloggers I admired, asking questions and inviting them to join some link-ups, and we met in person at our Church about a month later.  She is a genuinely delightful person with a lovely husband and two beautiful kiddos, who, today, graces us with her recipe for PF Chang's chicken lettuce wraps.

~~~~~~
Poor Iris.  She asked a flighty mom to write a guest post for her blog, and then she had to pester said mom until she finally buckled down to do it.
Flighty mom apologizes.  Flighty mom comes bearing food.  Reallll good food.
what i wore on Mission Sunday {10.20.13}
Psych!  I put yesterday's date on today's post.  Confused?  You're welcome - I mean - my apologies.
Anyhow, let's get down to business.  Don't worry, no Huns are involved.  Today, that is.
Yesterday was Mission Sunday, and my pastor reminded us that our mission field is indeed all around us, not necessarily in a far distant land.  I mean, if we just take a look at the world we live in, we can see how much it aches to hear the Good News and to come to know Christ, but sometimes it's so easy to get caught up in our own lives that we forget how broken the world is around us - at least I do.  But our duty to evangelize is knit into our DNA - into our identity as Christians through our Baptism.  I needed that reminder today.
Romans 10:16 ~ "Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ."  And who else is going to spread that word if not His Church?  That would be us.
Matthew 28: 19-20 ~  "Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age."  See, Christ Himself gave us that command, so are we going to listen?  Am I going to listen?  I'm going to try...
But before I get any more preachy, I know y'all are just dying to know what I wore to church yesterday.  So here you are.
♥ I think heaven will be like October ♥
wrote a list a bit ago of everything I love about autumn, and while that stands true, there are some things about the month of October in particular that seem to being little bits of heaven’s glory to this mortal world.
1.  Cooler weather.  I could go on and on (and on and on) about the weather of October and the changing seasons and about how incredible beautiful it all is…  Farewell hot and sticky summer, and welcome sweater weather!  Layers, jeans, boots, light scarves.  Yum.
2.  Football and hockey.  I love them.  I might not look like the type, but I’m one of those people who are constantly checking the score on my phone and watching the games.  And in October, we have a good few months before football season is over for the year – who doesn’t like football party munchies?
change & pope francis ~ 7QT (vol. 25)
Pin it!
--- 1 ---
Most of the time, I love change.  Sometimes, I do not.  Pope Francis' words were meant just for me.
“…Newness always makes us a bit fearful, because we feel more secure if we have everything under control, if we are the ones who build, programme and plan our lives in accordance with our own ideas, our own comfort, our own preferences. This is also the case when it comes to God. Often we follow him, we accept him, but only up to a certain point. It is hard to abandon ourselves to him with complete trust, allowing the Holy Spirit to be the soul and guide of our lives in our every decision. We fear that God may force us to strike out on new paths and leave behind our all too narrow, closed and selfish horizons in order to become open to his own.
Yet throughout the history of salvation, whenever God reveals himself, he brings newness – God always brings newness -, and demands our complete trust: Noah, mocked by all, builds an ark and is saved (Gn 6-8); Abram leaves his land with only a promise in hand (Gn 12); Moses stands up to the might of Pharaoh and leads his people to freedom (Ex 3-14); the apostles, huddled fearfully in the Upper Room, go forth with courage to proclaim the Gospel (Acts 2).
happily strange (Anthro outtakes)
Well.  I hope y'all didn't drool too much over yesterday's post ~ the first ever post on this here bloggy devoted solely to the thing called fashion!  I promised you the funny pictures, and funny pictures you shall have, but I thought I'd just tell you about the whole day.
For I am a blogger.  And bloggers blog.
That was a fun and busy day...
At lunch time, Aemelia and I met a few friends at the rosary rally at our school, which was quite a fantastic experience.  There we were in the public campus parking lot, praying the rosary for our nation with around 100 other people, throughout which we sang in honor of Our Lady of Fatima, and listened to meditations from Fr. Ben Luedtke, who we all had the pleasure of meeting afterwards.  He is so jolly.  And holy.  "The world would be in total darkness if it weren't for those who refuse to be silenced by the government and those who might think their Christian behavior to be abnormal.  And, the power of prayer is a very, very real thing, even though its ramifications seem to be taking a different route than expected or hoped for," he said.  Those are the two things I remember most.
my tripod is a jerk and Aemelia is not (Anthropologie finds)
#fallfashion.  I love it.
I don't often (read: never) do fashion posts, and I have good reason for that...  My life is sorely lacking in the Easily Accessible Photographer's Assistant area (since Aemelia and Caitlin are both very busy - don't they know they should drop everything and attend to my every need!?).  And, my tripod is a jerk.  We won't go into the gory details, but let's just say I don't trust it one bit.  I see it peering at me around the corner as I type this.  Also, I'm really not that fond of shopping, believe it or not, so seldom do I bring new clothes into the house.  And when I do, they're almost always second hand, so who knows where they were originally from.  Yada yada.
That being said, I have a fashion post for you!  Ha. ha.  My favorite store, Anthropologie, just opened a new branch not far from my house, and saying I was overjoyed is a whopper of an understatement.  My mom and I ventured out there a few weeks ago, and came back with a few of my new favorite outfits, and the best teacup I have ever put my hands on.
And on Saturday, Aemelia was kind enough to help me grab some snapshots of those most recent finds.
Here we gooooooo!
bits & pieces ~ 7QT (vol. 24)
Which is what 7QT is for anyway, isn't it?
Midterms are next week.  Midterms!  Holy cow.  I would appreciate the prayers.
You pray for me, I pray for you, m'kay?  M'kay.
I ran across this title in a BuzzFeed article (to which I can't find the link), so I watched it on Saturday night, and I quite enjoyed it!  Apart from some language, off color humor towards the beginning of the film before the plot fully begins to form, and a few loose ends, I thought it was a great film.
invocation for beginnings
This is an invocation for anyone who hasn't begun.
"Let me realize that my past failures that follow through are no indication of my future performance, their just healthy little fires that are gonna' warm me up.
If I catch myself wearing a tutu (too), too fat too late too old, let me shake it off like a donkey would shake off something it doesn't like.
When I get that feeling in my stomach - you know that feeling when all of a sudden, you get a ball of energy, and it shoots down into your legs and up into your arms and tells you to stand up and go to the refrigerator and get a cheese sandwich - that's my cheese monster talking.
lessons in autumn
Cool, fragrant breeze.  Goldish, red hue cast over the earth.  The soft crunching of the fallen leaves as I shuffle slowly through them.  Cool days, perfect nights.  The world getting ready to fall asleep.  Autumn.  I breathe deeply,  and again I am amazed at the beauty by which I find myself surrounded.  And I count my blessings.  It's not hard to do, when everything around me sings loudly in its silence the glory of God.  Autumn is by far my favorite time of the year... especially that period of waiting before all the colors pop in the leaves.
Life Chain 2013
*This is a little write up I did on yesterday's Life Chain.  Did your town have one?  Tell me how it went!  If not, what do you think of the whole idea?*
On October 6, a cool, overcast Sunday afternoon, the intersection of Huron Parkway and Washtenaw Ave. in Ann Arbor was lined with over 250 pro-life activists for National Life Chain Sunday 2013.  From 2 to 3:30 p.m., men, women, and children of all walks of life stood on the public sidewalks, holding signs including those which read “Women Do Regret Abortion,” “Adoption: The Loving Option,” “Defend Life,” as well as signs with phone numbers to various crisis pregnancy help lines.
Ciara
I am an explorer.
I'm an adventurer. My mission is to document and observe the world around me as if I've never seen it before. I take notes. I collect things I find along this journey of life. I look for happiness in the things that often go unnoticed. And it's my job to share them with the world.
get set - go; photo challenge mission #1
HEYDY HOWDY HO HO HO MERRY OCTOBER, EVERYONE!  Don't know about all y'all, but I am super excited this morning... because, do you know what October 1st means in Country Girl's Daybook Land?
Photo Challenge Mission Numero Uno!
I had so much fun thinking up these challenges over the past weeks, and I can't wait to get started.  You'll probably be happy to know that I'll be doing these right along side you, so if, perchance, I make you do something crazy, I'll look just as strange doing it as y'all will.  I be doin' thangs I hain't never done before!
Now, as any self-respecting challenge goes, there must be rules and regulations and whatnot.
