{simple saturday} impact

I noticed this simple little illustration on the Pinterest last weekend...  and it stood out to me more than the rest.

Sometimes your subtle differences are just what's needed to make an impact.  Sometimes it's better to go against the flow and stand out from the masses.

Happy {simple saturday}, y'all.

why Cait and I will never go outside without sunscreen again, and the bestest thing ever ~ 7QT (vol. 11)

Upon our return from last week's excursion, Caitlin and I realized we had gotten ourselves the worst sunburns in the history of us.  The poor girl looked like a mix between inbred Rudolph and an eggplant, and would most likely murder me if I graced you with pictures of her, and I want to live, so pictures of myself will have to suffice.  Notice the bug-eye sunglass burn line in the below photograph.  Like a boss.  But like a boss in so much pain.

Theme Thursday: Black and White

Well, after ye olde blogging hiatus, I am back and linking up with Clan Donaldson for Theme Thursday.

I'm SORRY, guys...  I know y'all are just clamoring to READ ALL THE THINGS.  The truth is though, sometimes I don't think I should even be writing this blog.  Here I am talking about love and there I go getting in a fight with my mom.  Here I am linking up with everyone and I feel like I have nothing worthwhile to say.  Here I am, an "advocate of simplicity," when certain aspects of my life are falling apart around my ears and almost drowning me.  A hypocrite I am.  And silence is sometimes best. But sometimes I need to hear certain things, and the only way I know I'll hear them is if I say them to myself.  So here I am, sitting in my little corner of my messy little room, clacking away at this pointless little blog.

{simple saturday} friendship

Two of my dearest friends / adopted siblings embarked with me on a small adventure last week.  We discovered upon our return home that Caitlin and I were dreadfully sunburned (I look like a strawberry milkshake and poor Caitlin looks like an eggplant), but we all agreed it was totally worth it.  SO totally worth it.  It's one of those days we'll smile about for a long, long time.

Happy {simple saturday}.

{theme thursday} water

I've loved being around water for as long as I remember... maybe because I have lived near water so long and I feel out of place without it.  I find the sounds and the ripples soothing and peaceful.  It's a reminder to me to accept the change God brings into my life with serenity and trust...  Change is a part of life whether we like it or not, and we have to learn to adapt to it without losing our identity in Christ.

this girl

Where do I even begin?  Who could find the words to express how absolutely remarkable this girl is?

She’s way more than a friend to me.

two cents

Just two cents from the Country Girl today...

I don't know about you dear folks, but I have major problems when it comes to shutting my mouth, especially when I've been insulted or hurt.  I am excellent at finding the one comeback or snarky remark I know will grind some gears.  I'm not proud of that fact, and it's something I realize I have to work on...

Because the fact is: life is tough.  There will be heartbreak and embarrassment and insult and all that nonsense.  Feelings will be hurt.  It's inevitable, because we're all human.  And all there is to do is respond with love, because there is nothing at all to gain from retaliation.  It would just be the same thing we disliked about the other person.  And all that would be left is a gaping hole of hate that love could have filled up.

gratitude sunday ~ a wedding, father's day

It seems strange that I'm writing this post for Gratitude Sunday since I wasn't even able to attend...  But life is still beautiful, and for that I am grateful.  I had to miss my cousin's wedding yesterday evening because I was sick, but thanks to my mother's newly-discovered iPhone wielding skills, she was able to send me pictures throughout the evening.

Congratulations, Thomas and Emily Rose!  God bless you as you begin your new life as husband and wife.  We love you!

mutant creatures, bubbles, & quick burgers (vol. 10)

1.  Obsession.  My father has an obsession with sesame seeds and cinnamon.  He puts them both on everything. Everything.  Applesauce, eggs, pancakes, chickens, you name it.  Is this normal?  Should I be concerned?

2.  Mutant Creatures.  We have long, raised bed of ivy behind our house known to us as “the wall,” and as I was weeding it on Tuesday afternoon, I made a discovery.  Mutant creatures grow in dark places.  Like this one:
It crawled onto my foot, y’all.  And, to make matters worse, I had to pry it off because its creepy little mutant sticky feet wouldn’t let go.  How incredibly strange.  I ended up tossing said Mutant Creature into the lake, and now I’m just hoping I didn’t poison all the fish.

Untame My Heart

As I was sitting in Eucharistic Adoration last Friday afternoon, the sky was dark and the harsh spring rain pounded against the glass which makes up the walls of the circular chapel.  Still, somehow, the gold monstrance seemed to shine brightly in its place on the small marble altar, and Chris Thomlin's Indescribable was stuck in my head - and totally out of the blue, I might add, not being one to listen to Christian music often.

One line replayed itself continuously in my mind: "All powerful, untamable, awestruck we fall to our knees..."

{simple saturday} my awkward life

Well, I'm not exactly sure what happened to last week's link-up configuration,
but I think I've straightened all that out now.

Anyhow, happy {simple saturday}, y'all!
Welcome back!

maccabees, seminarians, and latin cards ~ 7 Quick Takes (vol. 9)

--- 1 ---

I admit I probably shouldn't have been pondering this during Mass on Monday morning (alliteration, anyone?), but when is someone going to make an epic film of the story of the Maccabees (*cough cough* my friends who are studying film)?  I mean that seriously, though.  With all this garbage (and I mean garbage- with the exception of a few recent Marvel masterpieces and those of JJ Abram’s wonderful self) making an entrance on the silver screen, wouldn’t it be just excellent to have another Bible story accurately brought to life?  Oh, the possibilities!  I’m thinking a little Sean Bean, maybe?  Maybe some good, old fashioned Mel?  Eh?  (Insert snarky comment directed toward Chris about my overuse of parentheses here, and then insert another one about his watching Game of Thrones instead of writing movie reviews for me.)
--- 2 ---

May I just take a moment here to just gush over all of our seminarians?  I caught a glimpse of you carrying the canopy during the Corpus Christi procession after Mass last Sunday, and what a beautiful sight it was...  I am so proud of you, and I’m sure I speak for all.  SO PROUD of you young men who have responded and continually respond so generously and wholeheartedly to the vocation God has especially reserved for you.  God bless you.

flowers + classiness + pictures from my phone {pretty, happy, funny, real}

~ capturing the context of contentment in everyday life ~

I have to say that if I do end up moving out West,
and as much as I love the vegetation out in that direction,
I will miss the flowers on this side of the world.

I am in love.

I am in love with a man, who, on a regular basis, completely sweeps me off my feet.

I am in love with a man who can turn the worst day into the best of them with a smile or a hello.

He knows exactly what I need to hear, and isn't afraid to keep talking, even if he knows it's not what I want to hear.

When I get angry with him, he (somehow) manages to stay perfectly calm and quiet, waiting for my little storm cloud to blow over.

He knows when I need my distance, but he's always there when I run back into his arms.

{simple saturday} little things

I love that moment when, after worrying about not having anything to write, you realize you don't have to write about anything!  Happy {simple saturday}, y'all.  Welcome back (and welcome if you're here for the first time).  We're glad to have you.
